If sharing is caring, then Alicia Keys sure had a big spot in her heart for Adelaide soul-funk act Lowrider. Not only did she have the quartet support on her national tour in late 2008, the Grammy Award-winning megastar proved she was no diva by letting the boys jam with her legendary Chops Horns players.
“We didn’t know how much of a big deal it was – we didn’t even know they had to ask for her permission – but they told us later that generally the big star acts wouldn’t let any of their bands play previous to them going on stage,” says frontman Joe Braithwaite, “so for her to say it was fine, just shows how much of a real person she is.”
Thirty million-album sellers aside, Lowrider have since reconnected with the US horns players and they star on new album Round The World – a sophisticated step forward for the band whose sound has been polished like a gem courtesy of about 1000 gigs under their belts.
